This past Saturday four talented operators came over to the C&NE to enjoy an all-day Operations session.   I ran the large Yd yard at Harrowsmith, having previously prepared blocks for pickup at Swanton, StJ and Baden yards.  The four guests moved trains.

Here, on the C&NE, I am using what will become Build 353.

I (checked and) saw that the cutlists were complete, and cars from over-length trains stayed where they should.

Glad you had a good session, Jim.  Question on over length trains. If a train in staging is considered over length by the program, what happens to the extra cars that make it over length?  Will they stay in the train and on the reports? Thanks, Andy

Andy,

Train in staging outbound from staging?   Which is overlength?

The train should never had entered staging overlength in the first place.   Presumably the pair of inbound and outbound train(s) have the same settings for train length.

However, if the train is overlength in staging I will have to go check the code.  The cars should stay in the train.

Jim, just checked the update.  It is #352, June 17th.    I will have my yard crews watch to see if we have anymore problems with cars in the wrong locations during the next session which will be July 29th. Regarding the train lengths, in the last month or two, we have been setting train lengths to match the passing sidings.  I think some changes were made between the last 2 sessions and the reduction in length then made the trains already in staging over length.  So, a train that was able to take 30 cars into staging the session before is now over length coming out of staging in the next session.   When the Wheel Report was printed, it did show all 30 cars in the train consist coming out of staging.  But when the train arrived at Ribo Yard, it only showed 22 cars in the Cutlist, which may be the length limit that was set for this train (1000').   Bob and I worked on this last night by phone and realized that the length had been reduced to 1000' which is definitely too short for 30 cars.  I'm pushing the length back to a longer length for all trains in staging.  This can really be any large number since the inbound trains sets the limit for both, in reality.  If they come in with a max of 25 cars, then they will never go out with more than 25 cars.  I can make the staged trains have a max of 50 and it won't make any difference.  Hope that helps.  Regarding the NCE problem.  Looks like the battery is weak and needs replacing.  NCE is also sending me an update chip to replace an out of date one that is now in the command station.  We should be all ready to go in July!! :-) Best, Andy
