As this years' October ProTrak weekend moves closer (2017),  we would like to update you  on the transformations that have occurred on the Canada & New England over the past year.

The primary objective for the past year has been to improve reliability. We are pleased with the progress that has been made. The following have yielded improved reliability of the railroad:

  1. Re-wiring many locomotives.   We will chat about this in October.
  2. Truck re-building of the "Stewart" C630 to Bowser standards using a Bowser kit
  3. Transmission cleaning of many, many units, removing hardened grease
  4. Sound-decoder installation
  5. CV set-up of all engines
  6. A campaign to replace plastic-axle wheel-sets with all-metal Intermountain whee-lsets
  7. Re-building sections of track where rail vertical-alignment was causing 6-axle trucks to derail
  8. Installation of frog-power in industrial areas
  9. Running the railroad more often (now every Saturday)

There have been modifications and improvement in other areas as well:

  1. Addition of Grapevine detection blocks and circuits. This addition will become more valuable in 2018 as signaling will be added to the railroad.
  2. Labeling of turnouts and switch panels in some yards and and other hard to see areas.
  3. Improvements in ProTrak due to operational issues and solutions on the C&NE

Regular operating sessions have commenced and that has improved many aspects of the railroad.  The most important item we have learned though is "Proto Speed Is THE BEST SPEED".

We are looking forward to seeing you all in October.

Best
