Since Day-1, ProTrak has tried to help us plan our fleet purchases (by other than "blue", "brown"....)

At the end of the Daily Summary there is an optional summary of "Cars needed to meet traffic".  This window shows a list of 12 car-kinds of which we are short cars - the car-kinds the Car Distributor 'found' "no empties by car-kind".   The same window also is available at any time from "Edit/Show/Show cars needed to meet Traffic - Fleet Planning".

The count of car-kinds needed did not take into account the cars stashed away, not built.

So this window has been upgraded by adding two additional columns:  "Inactives" and "New".  "Inactives" is the number of cars of a car-kind already in your fleet (either not assembled, or 'bad-ordered' and off the railroad).   "New" is "Needed" minus "Inactives", thus giving you a more accurate estimate of the number of cars you absolutely need to acquire.

Also added are some totals:  "Total cars" of each of "Need", "Inactive" and "New" - the total of each column.   And the present "total for the fleet size" and the "Projected Total".   "Projected Total" is "Fleet Size" + "New".

~~~
These totals are based on the present state of your car-orders.   If you add more car-orders, the car-fleet numbers will most likely go up.
Similarly if the "Projected Fleet Size" somehow seems too large, you might a) ignore it, or b) reduce the number of car-orders.
~~~

The listed car-kinds can be customized for your railroad (as per Joe Batson in 2008).  Just click on a (green) car-kind datafield and type in the car-kind you wish.   Click "OK".  Next time the Daily Summary runs those customized car-kinds will be totaled - and displayed.

OK?
