 Jim,

I was reviewing the printouts from my 2-nd OP sessions and studied the Way bill / car orders sheet and tried to understand the Reason Code = Length. The PTBM Q&A appendix question K.11 states that this reason code "It would appear that you ran into "Subdivision Length" which means that the waybill car-length was longer than could be handled on that subdivision."  Several of my way bill that were not filled had the consignee on  one of my staging tracks. I've checked my only subdivision (i.e. Newberry) and the max. car length there is 50-ft. Also if the issue is max car length on a subdivision shouldn't the way bills with this non-fill reason be listed as non-filled each time the way bill is called.

Could you please expand a little more on this reason code.  I know it is much different that the "No length" code.

thanks

Joe

During the "car-order" (waybill to car), the Car Distributor process, the routine found the waybill being assigned called for a waybill-car-length longer than any car available.

If you disagree with this possibility, you might wish to check the waybill in question.  As you have been using ProTrak since the Permian simply opening the waybill and saving the waybill (OK) may be all that is needed.

The reason for that is that for some carkinds "length" is redundant as a restriction, as the volume is used instead. For example for a covered hopper car what matters is the cuft (volume).  ( Length would be an un-necessary complication.)  For a covered hopper (LO), ProTrak does not give a choice for "length" but inserts "15 ft" as the length for a LO waybill;  "15 feet" is shorter than any car.

You may have Permian-era waybills that pre-date this usage of length.   By opening and clicking OK" ProTrak notes and corrects the "length" datafield.

OK?

>You may have Permian-era waybills<

Does that mean that I am old?
