Howdy,
I did both (two different machines). Windows 8.1 was an upgrade automatically from the website. Windows 7 was new install from downloaded image. The Windows 7 machine had to have several Windows updates before I could access the download screens, weird. I ran ProTrak from both with no noticeable problems. In the end, it was all fairly painless.
Some folks have reported it being a little slower (older machines without much RAM). I didn't notice any appreciable slow down and at times it is faster. It seems to get faster every time I use it. Windows 10 has been very stable and all the old programs run just fine.
Happy rails, Mike C

AlohaWell it has been about 3 months since my XP machine HD crashed. So far not everything is restored. Any suggestions on what to do? The new one is a 64 bit Win 7.

Howdy Eric,
Can you tell us a little more about what you want to restore that is not restored? The new machine sounds great.
Best,

I upgraded to Windows 10 and ProTrak was fine; however tonight I attempted to download Build 318 and have had problems that I am certain on my end. There is no option in Windows 10 (that I can find) to "save as" when you click on the link in the email from the ProTrak store.
Going to have a bourbon.......

Howdy Jim,
Did you just try clicking the link instead of trying to Save As; that is all you need to do.

Well, I'm been trying to download 318 for 3 days, having major problems. I seem to have it, but when I check, I still have 316, my last download.
When I click on the link, it goes right into PT, which then thinks that it is a brand new copy, taking me through the registration etc. No, No, No.
I'm trying to get it from my "download" site, into my PT/PT. I end up with a 1kb link, which W8.1 stops me from running. How do I get around this??

Howdy Jim,
Are you having problems downloading the file or installing the file? Are you clicking the download link sent to you in a message from the store titled, "Files ready for download â ProTrak Software Store"? I have tried it this morning with three different browsers, and it downloads the file to the browser's download folder. You'll need to move the downloaded file to the Protrak/protrak folder as before. Downloading it the old way puts it in the same browser download folder, so not sure that would help.
Perhaps there is a missing registration file per Jim's comments elsewhere.
Let me know, mike c

OK, I finally got this and it is really simple!
On the old site, I would "right-click" and then save-as to download the update.
With this new web site I simply "left-click" the link; this downloads the update to my Downloads folder; I then highlight it and click "Move To" the ProTrak folder. I then open ProTrak and make sure it has uploaded; it did.
Many thanks.

Perfect!

OK,
I download 318, it goes to "Download", I copy that file to PT/PT, it says I need administrator to copy to this file, I continue anyway and the file copies to the PT/PT file and shows up as ProTrak (2). As you can see, I've done this before.
When I go to Help in PT, I still have 316.
Any suggestions???
John

John,
Did you re-name the existing "protrak..exe" _first_?
The Windows registery is telling Windows to use "protrak.exe". If you rename the _old_ "protrak.exe" to something else, then slip the new "protrak.exe" into the same folder, the registry (gets fooled) still points to "protrak.exe" (the new one).
Typically what I do is:
- download the Update "protrak.exe" (it goes to my "Downloads" folder)
- re-name the existing "protrak.exe" to "protrak_old.exe"
- move the Update "protrak.exe" to the ProTrak folder.
OK?
Jim
