I was a ProTrak user a few years ago and have been away. In the meantime, my systems have been upgraded a couple of times. I think I can remember the later steps in setting up the railroad and had a large design entered, but I'm stuck after following the New ProTrak User Read Me Notes.pdf and starting to go through "ProTrak Basics."

I've gotten through all 16 steps of the Read Me without an error or deviation from the expected behavior. However, when I open up the "Great Book" which I STILL have and step through Chapter 1, I come to a deviation when defining a new road. Specifically Figure 1-4 only shows the template railroad and never what I've entered unlike the figure.

If it will help, I am running a very new (2 months) Windows 10 workstation, lots of memory, disk and screens. I went with update 348 in the installation. I get no error message but no result either. The installation was done in normal user mode (not administrator).

Glad to be back but sorry to hear of Jim's passing during my absence.

HI John,

Did you follow the Win10 setup instructions in this forum (topic: "Win 10 - Installation and Update on a new computer")?

For win 10 the run as administrator is important as is not putting the "Protrak" folder in the program directory, put it directly in your drive's root directory.

I checked both my installs (348 and 355) and both created a new RR and made it immediately available in the change homeroad window.

Hope this helps,

John Valle

Thanks, I'm embarrassed to admit that I did not look far enough down to see Jim's original message. After a couple more flubs, I have succeeded in defining a new road. Looking forward to traversing familiar surroundings as I go through the chapters.

Glad to hear you got things going.

We are always to help if you have questions.

Also App L of the PTBM has some valuable information.

Best,

John Valle
