I followed the forum instructions and I have the program and the updates installed in Windows 10. After the update installed I was in the program (ver360) and even added in my railroad name. Now when I try to open ProTrak in the program list or from the exe file the Windows Installer opens. If I hit cancel nothing happens and I have to use task manager to close the installer. I checked the program properties and didn't see anything that would always want to install the program. I looked through the forum and didn't find any similar postings. I'm guessing it's a computer setting, but I don't know where to begin looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Randy,
Welcome to ProTrak and this fine forum. Don't think I've seen your problem before. It looks like you have done the right things. Am I reading your posting correctly when you say the "Windows installer opens". Does that mean that the Windows 10 installer opens instead of the ProTrak.exe? I'm a Windows 7 die hard; but do you need to run in Admin mode in W10 for the ProTrak installation process/steps? Check the ProTrak Basic Manual (PTBM) Q and A Appendix L for more information.
So as a pure stab in the dark - What is the sequence of C: drive folder/sub-folders into which you have put your ProTrak .exe file in. On my pc here in Orlando this is my folder path "C:\Protrak application\ProTrak\ProTrak-348.exe".
Stay healthy

Hi Joe
Thank you for replying. To answer your question, yes, no matter how I try to reopen the file, it opens the Windows Installer and begins reinstalling ProTrak. I have tried everything that I know and I can not get back into the program from the initial opening following the install. I just reinstalled the program so when it was open following the install I could pin the program icon to the task bar and that also starts the installer. I looked over Appendix L and the only thing that I saw that could apply was changing the program compatibility. I changed it to Windows XP and then Windows 8 and no luck. My file configuration is C:\Protrak\Protrak. I'm completely baffled by this. Any suggestions are welcome.

Randy,
Thanks for your persistence in trying the install process under various versions of Windows. The commonality of your problems across the various Window versions is indeed baffling. This commonality seems to infer that your installation process is correct. My next thought might be some kind of a corruption in the ProTrak file that you downloaded from the ProTrak forum site. Have you tried completely eradicating all vestiges of what you originally downloaded and started over absolutely clean with a new download? What was the time frame when you did your first download from the ProTrak forum web site?
Other NEW ProTrak users --- let's get some responses from those who have successfully downloaded and installed ProTrak say from the 15-th of March until now. Please response to this forum topic.

Hi All
I downloaded the original program and version 360 the first part of last week, April 6. I added version 348 this week, April 11, just to try something different. I've been digging for solutions through Google and the only thing I see is changing the registry, but I tried opening Protrak and other exe files in explorer, the other open with a mouse click and Protrak still opens Windows Installer. I'll try a new download of the original program and see if that opens properly.
Thank you again for the suggestions.

I uninstalled, redownloaded the files, reinstalled and it works. If anyone else is having problems, I had one observation between the installs. The first install took well over an hour to install the program and the updates. This time it was only minutes if that. Thank you to all that helped and now I just have to learn how to use it.
