All,

I recently had a computer problem and took my machine in for service; the problem I had was the computer would not boot up; the tech was able to get the computer to boot and copied by data from my N&W file and placed it under the My Documents folder, and backed everything up.

During service, the hard drive failed and needed to be replaced. I have, I think, successfully reinstalled ProTrak in its own folder, i.e., c:ProTrak. I had to register several ocx and one dll file which somehow I managed to accomplish.

I can start ProTrak, running it as administrator; it is version 339, which is the electronic file that Jim had provided to me. I HAVE NOT updated the program to a later version.

I created a new railroad, Norfolk and Western, in the N&W folder; however, when trying to copy my data from the backed up folder to the N&W folder in ProTrak I get nothing; the test railroad date still shows even though I have set the home railroad to Norfolk and Western.

Obviously I am missing something here; any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Howdy Jim,

Have you tried just copying the data to the ProTrakProtrakN&W folder? Then Find or Import home roads, then change home road to the newly found N&W folder? That is how we used to test different versions of our configuration.

Have fun, Mike C

Jim,

Just a thought. IS your N&W folder in the same folder as is your Ver 339 ProTrak.exe.  BTW I have an N&W folder down here and I presume it might be yours in case you might need it.  There are customers like Virginia Oak Tannery, Southern States Coop, Allied Chemical.

Woops just reread your original note.  IS it the copy that is not working?

Joe,

I installed the program and then created a new railroad, Norfolk and Western, to be placed in the N&W folder. When I copy the saved data from the hard drive to the N&W folder, my data does not show, but the data for the test railroad is still there.

I am in the middle of an operating session so I would very much like to get back where I was with regard to my data.

I also copied the entire C:ProTrak folder to C:ProTrak Test folder; I had saved my data, before the operating session began, to a thumb drive; I attempted to copy the N&W folder on the thumb drive to the N&W folder in C:ProTrak Test and got the same result; that is my data does not show, only that of the test railroad.

Since I encounter the same problem, that is my data is not overwriting the test railroad data in the N&W folder, whether I am using the copy of the file that was done by the service tech, or the file on my thumb drive well before my computer problem, my guess is that I am missing something else here.

Jim,

Glad to see that you have not given up on ProTrak.

Try this:

from the main ProTrak window

File

Find or Import home railroads

Find Home Railroads

Check list for your new folder name

Select and OK

This should find it.

I had tried Howard's suggestion, without success.

However, tonight Bob Butler called and we were able to get my data back into the program. Bob had me delete the N&W file that I had created in c:ProTrak. I then copied my backed up file to c:ProTrak; opened ProTrak, running as administrator; found my railroad listed in and switched to it; my data was there! So now I'm back in business and need to complete a session and then do some revisions to my data.

Thanks to all who made suggestions and for Bob talking me through this process.
