Hi Jim, and All,

I am still having a problem with waybills/carorders being used more than once coming out of staging.  Each carorder is scheduled to be used once a day from each origin city.

Checking the waybill carorders for this session for the LCL Freighthouse, I have the same waybill being used 4 times in 3 different trains.  Additionally, there are 2 waybills being used 3 times and 3 waybills being used 2 times.

This happens to more than just the LCL operations but that is the one that creates the biggest problem for me.

The problems is that these additional cars end up overloading my local yard and can't all be delivered to the customer, and it can get worse each session as they build up.

When there are just too many duplicates, I will go into the car inventory list and remove those waybills from the each car but that can take a fair amount of time to accomplish.

Is there anyway to limit the carorders so they can only be used once?

Thanks, Andy

Best, Andy Keeney

First, is this for car-orders going to local customers?

Second, when you open your list of cars, and then click on the "Dest" column header, and you scroll down, are there particular customers that are repeated a lot?

With the size of your railroad, I would expect to see may be three or four cars, spread around in trains and yards across the railroad for each customer.  What I am wondering about is (say) five or more cars going to one customer.

What do you see?

Assuming this is about car-orders to local customers, I assume you have checked the "ordered" car-order count at the customers you are concerned about?

Andy,

I looked at your NR data, as above, possibly for an older different session than where you are now.

a)  The data shows perhaps 10 LP going to BR-10.   Two are "mtys for load" and the others are mtys sitting in GSM-Yd.   So I checked your option settings, and I see that you have checked "Use predictive loading".   Unless you have storage tracks near BR-10 that can handle the mtys, you should un-check using this option.

b)  I looked at AD-10, where there were 6 cars enroute.  Then I looked at the customer car-orders and I see that most days you have 3 car-orders (4 on Thursday).   Six cars make sense as 3 would be for the Daily Summary just run, and 3 cars would be from the previous Daily Summary, still on their multi-day routing to go from online to staging then back to AD-10.

OK?

Hi Jim,

I'll try and answer your questions in order.

First, is this for car-orders going to local customers?

Yes.

Second, when you open your list of cars, and then click on the "Dest" column header, and you scroll down, are there particular customers that are repeated a lot?

Yes.  And I understand that.  I check for the current location of those cars when I look at how many are enroute to the customer.  This is normally not a problem.  I expect to see multiple car orders enroute to a customer, especially one that gets 3 or so cars per day.

My problem is with car orders assigned to trains in staging.

An Example:

I have over a dozen cars assigned to LCL service that come into Gresham from various staging yards and are delivered to the LCL Freight House each day.

There is only one carorder for each waybill each day.

My problem is that multiple car orders for the same waybill are being assigned to cars in trains is staging.

At the start of this new session, I looked at the cars ONLY in staging and found the following:

WB#711 was assigned to 2 cars in one train and 1 car in each of the other 2 trains for a total of 4 cars instead of 1.

Additionally, WB's 717 and 714 was assigned to 3 different cars, and WB's#255, 705 and 708 were each assigned to 2 different cars.

This made a total of 10 cars going to the LCL Freight House from various staging yards this day instead of only 5.

You can see how a few sessions like this will build up a backlog of cars trying to be delivered to the Freight House.

My initial question was if it would be possible to limit ProTrak to assigning only the amount of carorders that are scheduled and not allow duplicates being assigned in staging.

Thanks also, I've changed the "Predictive Routing" and will see how that works.

Thanks, Andy

Best, Andy Keeney
