Does anybody recall what Jim established as the criteria for a car to be assigned to a train that goes to a Storage Yard?  The PTBM never got into such advanced topics.

Are we allowed to answer our own inquiry? If so here goes.

I normally do all my ProTrak work on the main PC; but several years ago Santa brought me a laptop to use in the train room initially so I can use DecoderPro to program the speed tables in my locomotives.  I also use my laptop when I want to do a paper study of some thing and don't want to incur any interference with my main ProTrak data folders on my main PC.  SO the other night while preparing to do an "other switching train" paper study on my laptop I noticed a file there named "Storage track notes". Sure enuf in that file was information from Jim specifying how a car gets assigned to a train to go to a storage yard from a Yd yard.  There are two criteria which must be met.  The initial presumption is that the candidate car is a Yd yard.

Criteria 1 - Cars Destination (Dest'n) is the Yd yard

Criteria 2 -- Car has no BOL assigned to it.

So that raises another question.  I have seen several times that a car is marked Empty, Mty, Empty Rule 1 etc and still have as BOL assigned to it.  IS that an error in ProTrak.  One would think that an empty car should carry no BOL.

thanks

Joe

CORRECTION

I just looked at my freight car listing and indeed all the cars marked "mty" do NOT have a BOL assigned. The "empty for Load" cars do have a BOL assigned.

thanks
