Hi Jim and All,

Originally, we had 3 sets of road trains making setoffs and pickups at Cedar Hill, South Adam and Guthrie.  We have decided to make these road trains straight thru with no intermediate yard work and have created a transfer train that delivers and picks up cars at both South Adam and Guthrie and also continue to use the 2 current scheduled transfer trains between Cedar Hill and Gresham and Cedar Hill and Ribo.

Train: Bowling Green Transfer (BGT-1/BGT-2)

Route: Gresham Yard / South Adam / Guthrie / Bowling Green (turning point) / Gresham Yard.

This train departs Gresham Yard with cars for South Adam and Guthrie.  It works both yards enroute to Bowling Green (north staging) and runs through staging and back to Gresham Yard with no stops.

There will be outbound traffic from both yards with cars possibly going to any of the customers or staging yards on the railroad.

At Bowling Green, we have a 02y yard that can be used as the reporting point for the turn, or I can use IND05s as the staging track that it is reported at for the turn.

========================================

I have a questions regarding individual cars on the train going through staging.

Some cars will be traveling north to Indianapolis and beyond and others will be routed to Gresham Yard.

I do not want these cars to be unloaded and reloaded as they run through staging, so I'm thinking that the 02y yard at Bowling Green would be the best reporting point.

Will these cars be unloaded/reloaded if the train is reported at IND05s instead of the 02y yard, and any other thoughts that you may have?

Thanks, Andy

Best, Andy Keeney

Andy,

This is a train thru staging.  It should act like any other train the goes thru staging en-route.  ie: waybills get changed.

Your small y-ard will keep them without being changed.  But unless you intend to set cars off there for a different train, make the yard short.

This train is a turn and should bring all pickups back to Guthrie.

Thank you Howard, that is exactly how we have the small "y" yard setup at this time. That's what we will go with. Best, Andy

Andy,

Some cautions:

1. >Route: Gresham Yard / South Adam / Guthrie / Bowling Green (turning point) / Gresham Yard.

Generally ProTrak will not route cars >through< staging.  Bowling Green, being staging with "s" in the siding-number, cars may not routed through the last two segments (Guthrie to staging, then staging to Gresham).  Cars will get stuck at Guthrie will get stuck at Guthrie.

If you make the suffix a "y" you avoid that problem.

2.  Cars going through staging are unloaded/loaded only if the car destination-sidingnumber is the staging-track sidingnumber.   Cars destined elsewhere will sail right through staging without being affected.  (Which is why mid-mainline staging, such as "Toronto/Agincourt" on the C&NE works just fine.)

Hi Jim, I missed the caution.   Thanks, Andy
