Jim,
In an email I sent earlier, I have two towns being served by one 'lap' siding, which means there is no distance between clearance points of the siding serving one town and the clearance points of the siding serving the other town. This distance is useful only for a dispatcher controlled railroad, right?
Question: Should only one of the towns be a station?

Thanks Howard...that's something I hadn't thought of.
Since this is a two rail O scale layout, those two towns are sharing a 44 ft. long piece of bench work, which isn't that big in O scale. Having two switch jobs at the same time working the two towns can be done, but not very realistic, especially since part of the lap siding is treated as an interchange track serving the Conrail subdivision from staging.
Better stick with one town.
Mike
