After doing all the changes to the PRO Demonstrator railroad through Chapter 12, do I have to another installation from my ProTrak thumbdrive before I can enter my railroad?

Mike,

You can have any number of railroads within ProTrak.  So the answer is absolutely 100% "no".

In fact you should have three or more railroads: the railroad for your actual operating data, a railroad which is the "play" version for trying out ideas (plus PRO and ES) and maybe other people's railroads.  You can switch back and forth at any time.

Each railroad's data is in a separate folder.

To create a new railroad, see "File/New home road".   On clicking this menu item you get a new window.  Enter, for this new railroad: the initials, name, and folder (and region and year).  Click "OK".

This opens a window called "Operate on another railroad".  Double-click on the line for your new railroad.  This switches to the data in the new folder.  Then edit away.

~~~
When you create a new homeroad, ProTrak makes a copy of the current railroad.  Thus your NEW railroad will look exactly like PRO.  You edit this to become your railroad.  (Related, see also "Administration/Limits".)
~~~

From the main menu, "File/Change home railroad" gets you to the "Operating on another railroad" window.

There are other handy menu items, such as "Find", which we can discuss.

OK?

Jim:

I had done as you suggest but after entering my railroad data in the 'Changing Station 1 of 6" boxes, the 'OK' box at the end was frozen...would not save my data entries.  That's when I wondered if I needed to do a new installation of the program.

Mike,

The "OK" (or "Save") buttons are dis-abled if trains are moving - and the data would affect the train line-up.   Stations are definitely data that would affect the line-up.

You can check for moving trains at "Scheduling/List of train jobs".  There is a button at the bottom of that window "Train Status".   Any train that shows other "1", such "2", "3", etc. is moving.

~~~
If you are at the point of setting up your railroad (not operating) you can reset the trains at "Help/Emergency reset".
OK?
Mike,
As a result I have been pondering adding a display about "trains moving" somewhere on the start-up or main-menu window.   Perhaps on the top status bar?
Your thoughts?
Thanks,
Jim:  The only time I have run into this stoppage was after changing the info for North Staging.  One time I did not get the Figure 2-7 before the 'OK' button froze.  Maybe a short note by that 2-7 Figure might be all that is needed.
