You now can set different train length, tonnage or number of cars between stations.

Previously you could set only one value for a train, for each of maximum number of cars, maximum tonnage or maximum length in feet.

These values were set on the "train edit" window, one righthand side.   When you asked for a train-consist, these limits were applied.   Cars that exceeded those limits were made "extra cars" and could be moved on other trains.

Now you may set a train to, say, leave staging with 20 cars, and at its second reporting point increase to "30 cars".   Then at the yard before entering staging drop down to "20 cars".

~~~
This is definitely an advanced operations technique.   As with other advanced techniques this option is "turned on" at "File/Program program Options".   Scroll down to the second pane on the left "Yard trimming and switching", bottom option "Allow trains to optionally do setoffs/pickups.  Or set train capacity".   Click the checkbox.  Click "OK".
Now open a train, at "Scheduling/Establish Train jobs and yarding" and select the train.   Note the "purple-ish" button, just below the "Yard blocking" datafields, "Work and train capacity at each yard".   Click this button.  A new window opens.  Note the righthand panes.
There is a listing of the reporting points, plus datafields for "Cars", "Tonnage" and "Feet.   Initially the datafields are filled in with the earlier "one value" data.
   - for cars, just type in a number.
   - for tonnage, type in a number, or have ProTrak calculate for you by entering "= 25 * 132" (25 cars, or max 132 tons each).
   - for feet , type in a number, or have ProTrak calculate for you by entering "= 25 * 55" (25 cars, of 55 feet each).
Click "OK".
That's it.
~~~

When a train is reported at a reporting point the number of cars is adjusted (up or down).   When a train-consist is displayed on-screen the number of cars is adjusted (up or down).   When you "Seoff and trim" a train, the number of cars is adjusted (up or down).

OK?

In the example train capacities shown above:

   - the "132" is the maximum tonnage for a hundred ton car (263,000 lbs gross weight on rail, ignoring the "1/2").   If you are in the 1950s you might use "110" (220,000 lbs GWR).   See the "bearing" data for any car on your railroad (the dropdown).

   - the "55" is the fleet average car length.   See "Edit/Show/Show car Fleet statistics".   Click "OK".   The second datafield down, "Fleet average car length", which here is 54.2 feet.

~~~
No quotes.  Just enter "equals sign" times "number of cars" times the "tons per car".  Or "feet per car".  = 25 * 55.
OK?
