Good Day All,
After two years of being unable to use Protrak on my desktop due to my original software provided by Jim being unable to install on Windows 64bit systems (read my Windows 10 64bit thread from two years ago below), I have found a way to get all working. I suspect I am not the only one here with the 64Bit operating system issue which failed to load my original provided software on the multiple systems I tried in my household. I had some time over the holidays to experiment and found that those of us who purchased Protrak several years ago may have some variations in files when compared to the newer free Protrak program provided here on the site. I recently downloaded and installed the freeware version of the software provided on this site and it installed without issue and ran perfectly once registering the necessary System 32 files to my complete surprise. It appears at some point after I purchased my software years ago, that Jim started updating the program with the intention of making it usable on 64bit operating systems. The simplest solution if you cannot get your original software provided by Jim to install, is to turf it and use the software provided here on the site. Good on Jim for looking forward to the future. I would consider this the last and most important update of his software which is not noted anywhere and will keep it usable for all to use for years to come. Install as follows:
Step 1, Throw out your original disk if it will not install, there will never be a fix coming for it and sadly is completely unusable. Trust me, I agonized over it years ago when first encountering this problem with my older installation software and assumed the newer freeware software on this site would be exactly the same which it is not.
Step 2, Download and install the freeware version of the software provided on this site
Step 3, Install the updates provided here on the site and register the necessary System32 files per instructions.
Your should be back in business if you follow the above.
Happy Holidays

Just one more important point otherwise your Protrak installation will fail on Windows 11 64Bit. The Protrak software provided here on the site by default will want to install to C:\Program Files (x86)\Protrak\Protrak. You must install the program to C:\Protrak\Protrak otherwise your railroad folder becomes a virtual file you cannot recover or backup, eventually corrupting your hard work. This is the same issue that Windows 10 had that I reviewed with Jim in a post from years ago that he confirmed these instructions after review. For further review and his own explanation see the link to the below thread.
